We are proud to welcome the international community of Phnom Penh to our purpose-built school campus located centrally within the city. We will start 2018-2019 with over 450 students in Nursery (18 months) through Grade 8. We continue to be a rapidly growing school, with grade levels being added each year. Our campus is currently expanding as well, with world-class facilities under construction including an indoor swimming pool, a performing arts theatre with a capacity of 600, and a full-sized gymnasium! This new phase is scheduled to open during the 2019-2020 school year.
Accredited with the Ministry of Education in Alberta, Canada, we offer a well rounded and developmentally appropriate curriculum for students at each grade level. Our rigorous program is focused on student-centered inquiry learning. This philosophy fosters independent and critical thinkers who will gain the skills and knowledge needed to prepare them for the future as lifelong learners and leaders. While students learn in English throughout the day, CIS also offers students a wide variety of language options, including a French Bilingual program and Mandarin Chinese.
CIS graduates will receive a Canadian high school diploma and we are currently in the application process of receiving the IB designation to offer the IB Diploma Programme to our Grade 11 and 12 students. Meeting the needs and challenging the minds of internationally minded students from 30 different countries, the CIS academic program will offer students access to universities all over the world!
I invite you to spend some time going through our website to learn more about our school and how you can become a part of our international community. Application information and forms can be found in the Admissions section. If you have questions or would like to schedule a visit to CIS Phnom Penh, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to working together with you to Create Inspire and Succeed!
Head of School
Every school and school year brings its own excitement and I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of the CIS community! We continue to establish ourselves in Phnom Penh as one of the top schools not only with our curriculum but with our special events, dedicated staff and our commitment to ensure students look forward to coming to school everyday.
As our Koh Pich campus continues to expand over the next couple of years, I look forward to contributing to, and witnessing, our students grow into confident, well-rounded and inspired leaders who think globally and act locally with integrity as part of the CIS vision. I have enjoyed visiting students in classrooms and on the playground to see the wonderful ways they are learning and the sense of community that the teachers have created!
“Why a Canadian school?” I asked myself; so I did some research. I found an article by BBC News’ education correspondent, Sean Coughlan, entitled ‘How Canada became an education superpower.’ I discovered that Canadian schools are ranked, according to Pisa tests, in the top 10 in the world for math, science and reading. These tests show Canada’s teenagers are among the best educated in the world. I continued to read and research and decided that I would like to be apart of a school that follows the Canadian curriculum. So here I am, Vice Principal of the Canadian International School in Phnom Penh!
The Canadian curriculum forms a strong base on which to build the IB programme. To top it off: students who graduate from a Canadian school are accepted into universities around the world.
I am proud to be a member of a caring school community that fosters the flourishing of the whole student.
