CIS DISCOVERY WEEK – DAY 4

It is the last day of our stay here at Les Manguiers in Kampot but before we hop in the van and head back to Phnom Penh this morning, there is just enough time for some morning yoga and reflection.

It is the last day of our Kampot trip. I’m sad and happy at the same time. Sad because is the last day of the trip, but happy because I’m going to Angkor Wat this evening when we get back.

When Ms. Angrove told us about the trip, I knew it was going to be super cool. I was a little scared too because I didn’t know what the trip would be like. The first day we got here, I started thinking about how Kampot could be a super cool place.

The first day, we did a scavenger hunt. It was fun to see how they made the local cookies, called pig nose, and to see how the local people lived near Kampot. This was a good way to start the trip.

The second day, was cool because we climbed a mountain! The height of the mountain made it look super cool. It was a more difficult hike then I expected with trees and rocks to climb around, but by helping each other we climbed it in just under an hour. This was my favorite part of the day.

On our last day, we went kayaking. I was excited, and then scared, because I ate a lot at breakfast, which made me heavy. I was nervous I was going to sink the boat. The most exciting thing of it all was I was in the same boat as Mr. Duguay. He is so strong.

But the best part of the trip, would have to be seeing the Plankton and Fireflies the first night. I’ve never seen anything like that before. It was like Harry Potter magic seeing the colours in the water when I moved my hand.

This was a great trip. I hope can come back to Kampot again!

This trip has been the best week of my life because I got to do some great new things. My favourite part of the trip was everything! I liked swimming, kayaking, mountain climbing, and going to the museum where I saw pictures and learnt about Kampot. We also went to a school to clean up the trash and play games with the other kids.

The first night when we came to Kampot, when we were sleeping it took me awhile to sleep because I had so much energy, so that’s why I started counting sheep, which didn’t work, so I closed my eyes and breathed slowly. That worked.

Every day we did something cool! On the first night, I remember when we went on a boat to see fireflies, which was amazing! They were in the trees and they sparkled. There was also Plankton in the water, which turned the water blue when I moved my hands. I also remember when we roasted marshmallows. My marshmallow turned black, which didn’t tastes so good, but it was fun anyways. On the third day, we went to another school to see a dance performance and a puppet show which I enjoyed. When the puppet show was finished we went to eat pizza, which was great! I like eating pizza. Afterwards, we went back to the hotel and did some journaling.

I enjoyed all the great things we did on this trip but if I had to pick one part of the trip it would have to be mountain climbing and kayaking. I was with Richi and Visal in the kayak. We crashed a lot into the trees and bushes which was fun, but tough. I was at the back, and had to use all of my energy to steer, but I got the hang of it.

I really enjoyed the trip this week. I hope to have another trip like this again when I’m in grade 7.
