Cocurricular and Extracurricular Programs

In addition to our standard Physical Education, Fine Arts, and STEAM programs, CIS offers a wide variety of Cocurricular and Extracurricular activities for students ages 5 and above. These extra activities take place before and after school.

Cocurricular Athletics Program

The CIS Athletics Program gives students in Grades 1 to 12 the opportunity to train and compete in a number of sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, swimming, track and field and cross country running.

Our athletics program is rooted in Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development Framework. The goals of the CIS Athletics Program for students are:

  • to develop foundational sport skills in a range of sports and physical activities
  • to develop strength, endurance, and flexibility through games and fun activities
  • to balance training with competition and to avoid specialization in sports
  • to ensure sport and physical activity remains FUN!

Committing to a CIS sports team means training, competing, and being a member of a team. This type of experience teaches children about commitment, discipline, winning and losing, and teamwork; it’s an essential learning experience. Students do not need to have prior training in a sport to play for a CIS team; all that is required is a positive attitude and a commitment to the team.

There is no extra-charge for co-curricular activities, however, some sports tournaments require a fee.

Extracurricular Activities

Our extracurricular activity program allows your child to explore and develop their interests in a range of sporting, artistic, and STEAM based activities. In order to deliver the best possible ECA program, we partner with local providers, all of which are thoroughly vetted for quality and safety. ECAs are divided into three, eight week terms.

Elite Soccer Coaching

Each month, the technology and sciences teachers collaborate to create a STEAM challenge for one of the Middle school or High school grade groups. In these challenges, students are given a problem they must solve and work together as a team to come up with a solution.

Sand Art

In addition to the many curricular and cocurricular STEM program opportunities at CIS, our students are offered a plethora of technology related extracurricular activities. CIS has an active Media Club where they learn about video production and broadcasting. Alternatively, the STEAM club offers students the chance to learn about virtual and physical robotics, coding, as well as other STEAM subjects.
