Cambodia's First Reggio Inspired Preschool

What is Reggio Emilia?

The Reggio Emilia approach is based on the image of children as capable, highly competent and curious learners. Loris Malaguzzi, the founder of the approach, believed that children explore, express and connect their thoughts and feelings in an infinite number of ways. This concept guides all Reggio Emilia-inspired programs today. Children are supported in building relationships with teachers, classmates and parents. The learning environment prompts collaboration and spurs creative thinking. Teachers guide students in their explorations.

The Principles of Reggio

Emergent educational program – Teachers speak to the children and their families, and observe children closely when they are at play, in order to plan suitable projects.

Extensive Projects – Projects are extensive investigations into the children’s interests. Airplanes, gardens or dinosaurs, for example, might be explored in a variety of ways. Teachers guide the children in their research. Projects can last for a number of days, several weeks or even months.

Representational development – The Reggio Emilia approach calls for the presentation of findings and ideas through a variety of media, including print, art, dramatization, music, puppetry, and so forth. This ensures that all children connect with the concepts explored.

Cooperation – The concept of collaboration is viewed as essential to enhance a child’s cognitive growth. Children learn to negotiate and to solve problems together.

The Reggio Teacher

Our specialist early years teachers expose your child to a wide array of instructional possibilities that urge self-expression, interaction, abstract thought, as well as problem solving.

They facilitate discovery experiences as a guide and resource. Our teachers constantly observe and assess your child’s development, as well as the functioning of the class as a community.

The Reggio Environment

Care is taken to build an environment that enables the easy exploration of selected topics and your child’s interests. Work is commonly kept at the children’s eye level to make sure that they can see how they are advancing in their studies. Products from home, such as actual crockery, tablecloths, plants, and animals, add to a meaningful learning environment.

“All of these features combine to make Reggio Emilia-inspired classes an intriguing and reliable approach to broadening young minds – one step at a time.”
