Sports

Inspiring young athletes

At CIS, all students can participate in and enjoy sports in a safe, fair, and inclusive environment. Through sports, students develop healthy, life-long physical, mental, and emotional habits. Students participate in physical education classes as part of the curriculum. They can also join optional after-school sports teams and enrol in our sports academies.

CIS provides excellent sports facilities, including a regulation-size natural grass soccer field, short course swimming pool, two air-conditioned gymnasiums, a dance and yoga studio, and a well-equipped fitness centre. The CIS Roller Dome is located a few minutes from Koh Pich Campus.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND WELLNESS CLASSES

Students participate in Physical Education and Wellness classes during the school day as part of the curriculum. These classes enable students to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. Physical Education and Wellness classes include swimming lessons.

AFTER-SCHOOL SPORTS TEAMS

Through our After-School Activities Program, students in Grades 2–12 have opportunities to participate, train and compete in basketball, soccer, volleyball, swimming, track and field, badminton, and cross-country running. After-school sports programming is rooted in Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development model. This model provides an optimal training, competition and recovery schedule for each stage of athletic development.

Committing to an after-school sports team means training, competing and being a member of a team. Students learn about commitment, discipline, winning, losing, and teamwork. Students do not need to have prior training to join a sports team; only a positive attitude and commitment are required.

CIS is a member of the ASEAN Sports and Activities Conference (ASAC) and the Young Athletes of Phnom Penh (YAPP) group of schools. Our teams participate in both local and international sports tournaments.

We are proud to have hosted the 2024 ASAC Senior Football Championships and the 2025 ASAC Senior Basketball Championships. International schools from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia participated. We also host regular YAPP swim meets and sports events on campus.

Each year in June, athletes, parents and coaches come together to celebrate special achievements and teamwork at our annual Sports Banquet. Elementary students enjoy an annual Sports Day with a variety of fun activities.

SPORTS ACADEMIES

Our Soccer Academy and Volleyball Academy provide students with up to 15 hours per week of intensive training. Training takes place before school, after school and on weekends at Koh Pich Campus. The programs include one-to-one coaching, skills training, technical and tactical coaching, video analysis, strength and conditioning, injury prevention, and sports psychology.

Our sports academies are delivered by specialist coaches and are usually of interest to students who are preparing to compete in soccer or volleyball at a university level. Students in Grades 6–12 may enrol.
