On February 2nd, CIS kindergarten to grade 4 students joined other young learners from around the world to celebrate World Read Aloud Day. They enjoyed participating in a range of literacy related activities including storytelling, paper crown making and bookmark crafting.

Organized by the non-profit LitWorld, World Read Aloud Day aims to champion literacy as a basic human right and has grown into a movement involving millions of people over the past decade.

Guest Read Alouds

Throughout the day students were treated to popular stories read aloud by special guests including  Grade 3-11 Principal Mr. Squires, Librarian Mrs. Garofolo and  their classmates. Students were engaged during the readings and  often took the opportunity to ask questions and explore stories together.

Fostering a Love For Reading

As our student’s comprehension and decoding skills increase, so does their enjoyment of reading. Celebrating reading and providing a variety of ways to develop literacy skills allows our students to develop a lifelong love of reading.

A big thank you to all the students and staff members who made the day such a memorable one for our elementary school students.
